WHAT IS IPL HAIR REMOVAL?
IPL Hair Removal is a light-based treatment that targets unwanted hair at the root.
A course of treatments can significantly reduce hair growth, thickness and density. Remaining hair may become finer, lighter and slower-growing.
Although commonly called permanent hair removal, the most accurate description is permanent hair reduction. Occasional maintenance treatments may be needed.
02
BEST FOR
• Dark, unwanted facial or body hair
• Frequent shaving or waxing
• Shaving irritation
• Selected cases of ingrown hairs
• Coarse or fast-growing hair
• Beard shaping and grooming
• Clients wanting long-term hair reduction
03
NOT SUITABLE FOR
Treatment may need to be postponed or avoided if you have:
• Blonde, white, grey or certain red hairs
• Recently tanned or sunburnt skin
• Active infection, cold sores or broken skin
• Tattoos or permanent makeup within the treatment area
• A light-sensitive medical condition
• Photosensitising medication
• Current or recent isotretinoin use
• Pregnancy
• Suspicious or undiagnosed skin lesions
• A medical condition or medication that affects treatment safety
IPL is not equally suitable for every combination of skin tone and hair colour. A professional consultation and test patch are required.
04
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The Ellipse SPT+ system delivers carefully controlled pulses of filtered light into the skin.
The light is absorbed by pigment within the hair and converted into heat. This heat travels down the hair shaft and damages the active hair-growth structures.
IPL is most effective when the hair is in its active growth phase. Because different hairs enter this phase at different times, a course of treatments is required.
BEFORE
Your skin tone, hair colour, hair thickness, medical history and medication will be assessed. A test patch may be performed before treatment begins.
The area should be shaved as instructed, but the hair must not be waxed, tweezed or removed from the root.
DURING
A cooling gel is applied to the skin and protective eyewear is worn.
You may feel a brief warm flick or snapping sensation with each pulse. Coarser, darker hairs may feel more noticeable during treatment.
AFTER
The skin may appear slightly red or feel warm. Small bumps around the hair follicles can occur temporarily.
Treated hairs do not disappear immediately. They gradually loosen and shed over the following days or weeks.

Maintenance: Occasional sessions may be required
AT A GLANCE
06
IPL is most effective on hairs that are actively growing.
Only a percentage of the hairs in an area are in this stage at any given time. Repeated treatments are therefore needed to target new groups of active hairs as they appear.
Hormones, age, medication, genetics and the treatment area can all influence the number of sessions required.

IPL PERMANENT HAIR REMOVAL
Hair reduction develops gradually throughout the treatment course.
Some hairs may shed after the first treatment, while other hairs will continue growing until they enter an active growth phase and can be treated effectively.
With each session, you may notice:
• Slower regrowth
• Finer remaining hair
• Patchier hair growth
• Less frequent shaving
• A gradual reduction in overall hair density
Results differ between clients and treatment areas.
